Tenosynovitis

What is it?

An irritation of the tendon sheath. It occurs when the repetitive activity becomes excessive and the tendon sheath can no longer lubricate the tendon. As a result, the tendon sheath thickens and becomes aggravated.

Symptoms

The friction resulting from the excessive repetitive activity causes pain and swelling in both synovium and tendons. This limits movement of the tendons and can cause a squeaking sound as the tendons attempt to move through the smaller space.
